SAMAB's 13th Annual Conference was held November 5-7, 2002 at the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort, Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The theme was "Measuring, Mitigating, and Managing Human Impacts in the Southern Appalachians."

It is titled: "Strategies for Managing Hemlock Woolly Adelgid in Forests." This is the only paper discussing management in forests and not just biocontrol research findings.
