Quality of Life in the Southern Appalachians: Sustainability through Stewardship and Cooperation-- Southern Appalachia is one of America’s unique cultural, biological, and physical landscapes, offering cherished natural beauty and vibrant culture that draws million of visitors and an increasing number of new residents. Welcoming new people brings new opportunities for economic development and the resulting pressures upon the landscape and its residents. Maintaining quality of life amid these pressures is dependent on the cooperative stewardship of many people in government, academia, industry and the public. The 15th annual SAMAB Fall Conference offers a forum for learning, networking, and brainstorming to promote sustainability through stewardship and cooperation in the region.
