The Southern Appalachian Information Node (SAIN) is a regional node of the National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII) sponsored by USGS, which provides biological and related data and information along with decision support tools to improve decision making. SAIN builds on SAMAB's Southern Appalachian Regional Information System (SARIS) concept. SAMAB is partnering with SAIN to provide better access to information for decision making in the region.
The Southern Appalachian Assessment (SAA) was completed in 1996, and its extensive database was hailed as a major accomplishment and model for similar endeavors around the United States and the world. Access the SAA GIS Online Database or order it on CD-ROM.
